Hello world!
Welcome to the Petersburg Public Library’s latest presence on the ‘net!Â
To start us off, we would like to share with you the latest news on the biggest happening with the library right now, the construction of the new library. You may know that the city has already purchased the site for the new building, the old Petersburg/Crossroad Ford location at Washington and Market. (The owner of Crossroads Ford gave the city a great deal on the property. Go see them at their new location on Temple Ave. between Colonial Heights and Hopewell!) Demolition at the site will begin around the new year and new construction should begin in the spring. In the meantime, the library foundation, director and staff are hard at work with the architects (Gil Entsminger’s firm in Old Towne) to create a new and greatly updated library.
The new building will have plenty of meeting space, including a 300 seat auditorium for public use. Of course, the library will be using it as well; we are grateful to the many venues in the city that have hosted us over the years, but we are really looking forward to having our own space. And yes, of course, we will have more computers, as well as other technology.
More details as they become available, and check back often for other library developments, including latest arrivals, reviews and more!
